Dallas ISD News: Dallas ISD will continue offering free meals under the Community Eligibility Program

NEWS RELEASE
For Immediate Release: July 18, 2024

DALLAS -Dallas ISD announced that the district will continue to serve free meals to all students under the Community Eligibility Provision (CEP) for the 2024-2025 school year.

The CEP allows eligible schools to serve free meals to all students regardless of income. Under the program, schools receive funding based on a pre-established formula, so families no longer have to submit applications reporting their household income to receive free school meals.

This program is important to Dallas ISD because students who have access to better nutrition tend to perform better academically, are more attentive in class, have better attendance, and have fewer disciplinary issues. CEP is also an engine for equity by eliminating the out-of-pocket costs for families and reducing the stigma associated with traditional free school meal programs.
