CCFD Urges Residents to Practice Fire Safety on Fourth of July

CORPUS CHRISTI, TX - The Corpus Christi Fire Department (CCFD) reminds residents that setting off fireworks within the City limits is illegal. This includes discharging fireworks on City beaches. If cited, you could be fined up to $2000 per package of fireworks.

If anyone wishes to report the illegal discharge of fireworks, residents are encouraged to call 361-886-COPS (2677). Please do not call 911 for firework-related complaints.

If residents celebrate outside of City limits, CCFD encourages the following safety tips below.

  • Use fireworks outdoors only.
  • Light only one firework at a time and never re-light a "dud."
  • Keep water or a hose nearby for emergencies.
  • Supervise children closely around fireworks. Ensure they do not pick up fireworks from the ground, as they can still be active.
  • Read and follow directions closely.
  • Grill at least ten feet away from flammable structures.
  • Check for gas leaks before using the grill.
  • Have a fire extinguisher on hand while grilling.
  • Build bonfires in open areas away from combustible materials.
  • Keep fires small and contained in designated areas.
  • Always extinguish fires completely before leaving.
