Combs Park planning meeting Nov. 13

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. - A public meeting to gather input from Fayetteville residents about planned enhancements to Combs Park will be held Wednesday, Nov. 13.

The meeting will take place 5:30-7 p.m. at the new Rock Street Annex Public Meeting Room, located at 100 W. Rock St., just southwest of the downtown square.

Attendees will be shown a presentation and have the opportunity to review planning boards, ask questions and engage one-on-one with City of Fayetteville staff and project consultants.

This is the second round of input being sought by the Parks, Natural Resources and Cultural Affairs Department on improvements to Combs Park. Initial public feedback from a Jan. 24 meeting and an online survey were used to improve initial concept drawings.

City staff are seeking input for the best ways to enhance Combs Park to integrate with future restoration work on the West Fork of the White River. The project will include the Pump Station Dam being removed and the river restored through work being planned by the Watershed Conservation Resource Center.

Ted Jack, park planning superintendent, said, "Combs Park will become Fayetteville's first true river access park designed for water recreation and nature appreciation.

"The park will provide access for picnicking, trails, swimming, wading, fishing, tubing, birding, and paddling, and it will serve as one stop on a river trail along the West Fork of the White River."

Combs Park also will be connected to the City's active transportation trail system, enabling many to access the park by bicycle or on foot.

For those unable to attend the meeting, project information and a questionnaire will be placed on Speak Up Fayetteville, the City's online engagement portal. From Nov. 13 to Monday, Dec. 9, residents can access them at: https://speakup.fayetteville-ar.gov.

This project is partially funded by the Park Improvement Bond approved by Fayetteville residents in 2019. For more information, visit: https://www.fayetteville-ar.gov/4321/Combs-Park-Improvements.
