Montenegro will remain an uncompromising EU partner and a responsible NATO ally, maintaining complete alignment with the EU's Common Foreign and Security Policy, said Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Ervin Ibrahimović during a meeting with European Union Heads of Mission in Montenegro. The meeting was hosted by the Head of the EU Delegation in Montenegro, Johann Sattler.
Minister Ibrahimović expressed gratitude to EU member states and institutions for their continued support, highlighting the importance of Montenegro's positive IBAR as a turning point on its EU accession path. He reaffirmed the Government's full commitment to reforms and its determination to leverage the current momentum in negotiations.
Speaking about the "Barometer 26" platform, Ibrahimović emphasized the importance of collective action by all political actors to successfully conclude negotiations by the end of 2026, enabling Montenegro to achieve EU membership by 2028.
The platform calls on political stakeholders to prioritize European integration while addressing polarizing issues through broader societal dialogue, Ibrahimović said.
The Minister also welcomed encouraging messages from European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen and Enlargement Commissioner Marta Kos, which send a clear signal to candidate countries that enlargement remains a realistic goal. He stressed the importance of maintaining an intensive dialogue with EU institutions and member states.
On regional cooperation, Ibrahimović reiterated Montenegro's dedication to fostering good neighbourly relations and regional stability, a key foreign policy priority. He also noted challenges such as hybrid threats and malign influences from third parties. To counter these, Montenegro has intensified efforts to strengthen national resilience, with significant support expected from the newly opened Western Balkans Cyber Capacity Centre (WB3C) in Podgorica.
