Incident this evening

To the Temple community,

Earlier this evening, at approximately 5:45 p.m., there was a shooting incident on the 1800 block of North Broad Street.

At this time, what we can share is that it appears to be a road rage incident between two individuals who are not affiliated with the university. A passenger in one of the involved vehicles suffered what is believed to be a graze wound. A bus for a visiting sports team that was parked nearby was struck with gunfire. No one was on the bus at the time and no injuries were reported.

Both vehicles involved were stopped by police, two individuals were taken into custody, and two guns were recovered.

We are thankful for the immediate action of Temple University and Philadelphia police officers who quickly responded to the incident.

While no members of the Temple community were injured during this incident, we recognize that this incident took place with others nearby and is unsettling. We encourage students who are impacted to seek support through Tuttleman Counseling Services, located at 1700 N. Broad Street. For information, call 215-204-7276 or visit the Tuttleman Counseling Services website. For faculty and staff members, our employee assistance program offers support and resources 24/7 online or call 1-888-267-8126.
