From the warm feeling of sitting around the TV with family watching classic holiday movies to the anticipation of waking up on Christmas morning to see what Santa left under the tree, the holidays bring back some of the best childhood memories.
While many of us got to experience these things as kids, this time of year can be especially difficult for children in foster care. Among the other uncertainties, they may be hesitant to join in with their new foster family's traditions or wonder if Santa will be able to find them in their new home. Foster families do everything they can to make the holiday special for their little ones, but the costs can add up and it's not always easy. And this is where Mattress Firm steps in to help.
Since November 1, all Mattress Firm stores have been collecting new toys to make sure foster children across the country will have something to look forward to this holiday season. While this time of year seems to fly by, it's still not too late to put a smile on an innocent child's face. Whether you're picking up toys for your own kiddos or just stopping by your nearest department store, I challenge you all to take a moment and think of the kids who may be feeling uncertainty this holiday season and throw a little something for them in your cart.
Nationwide, all Mattress Firm locations will continue to accept new and unwrapped toys for children of all ages through Sunday, December 17. If you can't make it out to a store, you can also donate online now!
Everyone knows that elves help Santa get presents ready to go out on Christmas Eve. Just like Santa, Mattress Firm has elves too. For the second year, our Mattress Firm employees volunteered their time to take gift-giving one step further by delivering the toys donated through the Mattress Firm Foster Kids Toy Drive to the nonprofit partners in our communities.
Just this week, our Mattress Firm Elves in Houston, Charlotte, Orlando, Seattle and Washington, D.C. delivered the toys collected so far to the foster children and local nonprofit partners. From surprising foster children at a holiday party in D.C. to distributing toys at DePelchin Children's Center with Houston Texans player DJ Reader, each event was a huge success!
