"Our auditor was just notified by the tax assessor-collector that one of our elected officials is delinquent on their property taxes. It's a new pay period, and it's turned into an awkward situation. What do we do?" |
Under Local Government Code §154.025, the county treasurer or auditor may not pay the elected official until first notifying them in writing of the indebtedness and the debt is paid. A county may garnish any payment to the official if notice of such is included in the original notice from the treasurer or auditor.
