Denver Clerk and Recorder Announces 'Q&A Election Fact-Checker'

Published on August 13, 2024

Misinformation creates confusion and distrust with voters and members of the public. The Denver Office of the Clerk and Recorder is taking a proactive approach to combat misinformation about the upcoming General Election through our Q&A Fact-Checker Initiative.

From now through the November General Election, members of the public can visit our webpage to see the most commonly asked election questions of our office. Members of the public can also ask their questions if their question isn't listed. Questions and answers will be tweeted out regularly by our X account @DenverElections. "Accuracy is paramount for me and my staff," Denver Clerk Paul López says. "People need to know we are accessible and ready to address any questions or concerns voters may have."

Election misinformation is a danger to American democracy. According to theBrennan Center for Justice, as of 2022, 64% of election workers have reported that the spread of false information has made their jobs more dangerous. Misinformation also interferes with voters' ability to understand and confidently participate in the democratic process of elections.

"We are readily available to talk with voters, ease their concerns, and boost their confidence in how we run fair, non-partisan, and transparent elections," Lopez continues. "This is where my staff and I put country before party, to ensure eligible voters have access to vote in fair and accurate elections."
