Fatal Hit-and-Run Traffic Collision

Los Angeles: The Los Angeles Police Department's South Traffic Division detectives are investigating the circumstances of a traffic collision that killed a pedestrian.

On November 5, 2024, around 12:05 a.m., officers responded to a radio call of a traffic collision at 87th Place and Central Avenue.

A vehicle driven by the suspect was traveling southbound on Central Avenue and struck a female pedestrian who was walking eastbound on 87th Place inside of a marked crosswalk. After striking the victim, the driver of the vehicle continued southbound on Central Avenue without stopping to identify themselves or contact emergency services as required by law.

Los Angeles Fire Department paramedics responded to the location, however, despite lifesaving efforts, the victim succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced deceased. The victim is described only as a female.

On April 15, 2015, the City Council amended the Los Angeles Administrative Code and created a Hit-and-Run Reward Program Trust Fund. A reward of up to $50,000 is available to community members that provide information leading to the offender's identification, apprehension, and conviction or resolution through a civil compromise.

Motorists are reminded that if they become involved in a collision, they should pull over and stop as soon as it is safe to do so, notify emergency services, and remain at the scene to identify themselves. Motorcyclists are also reminded to obey the rules of the road and ride at a safe speed.
