Wiwynn Selects AWS Outposts to Shorten Deployment Time of Global Smart Manufacturing by 90%

LAS VEGAS - December 02, 2024 - Wiwynn Corporation, a cloud IT infrastructure provider of high-quality computing and storage products, plus rack solutions for data centers, announced it has selected Amazon Web Services (AWS) Outposts to expand its smart manufacturing global footprint. AWS Outposts is a family of fully managed solutions delivering AWS infrastructure and AWS services to on-premises and edge locations for a truly consistent hybrid experience. By leveraging AWS Outposts and extensive AWS global cloud infrastructure, Wiwynn achieved rapid, cost-effective, flexible, low-latency, resilient, and secure global deployments, accelerating its vision of expanding smart factories worldwide.

In the past, deploying the manufacturing automation and warehouse management system of a new factory typically took 10 weeks in total, including hardware installation, resources provisioning, and access point (AP) deployment. With AWS Outposts, Wiwynn was able to seamlessly integrate data residing across AWS Regions and factory locations, and remotely configure system parameters. This reduced the deployment time of manufacturing automation and warehouse management systems for its new Malaysia factory by 90% to just one week. At the AP deployment stage, AWS Outposts helped Wiwynn reduce deployment time of the new factory management system from two weeks to two hours. All in all, the adoption of AWS Outposts helped Wiwynn deliver production environments 10 months ahead of schedule. Leveraging the unified management interface of AWS Outposts, Wiwynn also simplified administration overhead, requiring just one eighth of the original manpower for IT system management. Additionally, with the centralized management AWS Outposts provided for Wiwynn's factories across the globe, Wiwynn reduced its operational and manpower costs of managing data centers and IT systems.

With AWS Outposts available in various countries and territories across the globe, Wiwynn was able to take advantage of fully managed cloud infrastructure on premises and rapidly scale smart manufacturing wherever its new factories need to operate. This allowed Wiwynn to more rapidly adapt to market changes or new business requirements. AWS Outposts supports scalability by allowing flexible expansion of compute, storage, and networking resources for the on-premises infrastructure, while seamlessly integrating with the AWS Regions for additional capacity and services to quickly adapt to market changes or new business requirements. In addition, by leveraging AWS Outposts, Wiwynn was able to keep network latencies between on-site equipment and its manufacturing and warehouse management systems under 5 milliseconds for latency-sensitive workloads. AWS Outposts also provided a robust disaster recovery solution with AWS Backup and AWS Elastic Disaster Recovery (AWS DRS), enabling Wiwynn to back up and replicate its critical workloads to a selected AWS Region or other Outposts. In the event of hardware, network, or site failure, factory traffic can be seamlessly transferred to the AWS Region or other Outposts, ensuring business continuity and minimizing the operational disruptions.

"Wiwynn is committed to digital transformation and global expansion, and AWS Outposts provides integrated AWS services and APIs, enabling us to use familiar AWS tools to deploy and run applications and workloads with secure protocols," said James Wen, chief information officer, Wiwynn. "By adopting AWS Outposts, Wiwynn can unlock the full potential of smart manufacturing, driving innovation and production efficiency, and global competitiveness in the Industry 4.0 era. We look forward to expanding our collaboration with AWS further."

"In this new era of rapid technological innovation, AWS is actively helping customers expand globally and seize new business opportunities," said Jan Hofmeyr, vice president of Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud (Amazon EC2) Edge at AWS. "Wiwynn's smart manufacturing across the globe is an inspiring example of how manufacturers can leverage AWS Outposts to accelerate innovation and meet rising customer demand. We are excited to collaborate with Wiwynn and support their digital transformation in the Industry 4.0 era."

In response to rapid business growth, Wiwynn has focused on operational efficiency and digital transformation, migrating its ERP system to the cloud in 2019, integrating Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud (Amazon EC2) to automate facilities from 2023, and allowing headquarters to deploy and manage IT systems globally with AWS. To embrace the future of smart manufacturing, Wiwynn is also looking into leveraging generative AI technology to increase production efficiency and accelerate innovation.
