University College Celebrates Student Milestones with Inaugural 'Level Up' Event

North Carolina Central University's (NCCU) University College recently hosted its inaugural 'Level Up' Celebration, recognizing students who've reached the halfway point in their journey to graduation. The event, led by Associate Dean Dawn Matthews, Ph.D., and Senior Academic Advisor Shanice Green, marked a major milestone as students transition to their upper-division coursework.

"This celebration is not just about acknowledging our students' achievements-it's about recognizing their resilience, passion, and dedication to their academic journey," Matthews said. "We're honoring not just where they've been, but where they're headed, and the tremendous impact they'll have on the world."

Nearly 100 students gathered to receive certificates of achievement, personalized letters from their academic deans, and guidance to help them navigate the final phase of their undergraduate experience. The event, attended by deans from all schools and colleges, introduced students to their new upper-division advisors.

One student, Taylor Slaughter, a pre-nursing major, shared her excitement.

"The Level Up event was an amazing experience. Although I'm sad to leave my advisor at University College, my new department made me feel welcomed and excited about moving on to the next step," said Slaughter. "This is a ceremony every student should experience."
