TaikoArts Midwest to perform at MSU Moorhead Oct. 9

Wednesday, Oct. 9 | 7:30 p.m. | Roland Dille Center for the Arts Hansen Theatre

TaikoArts Midwest, a Minnesota-based world-class taiko ensemble that delivers loud, energetic performances that combine music, dance, culture, and pure athleticism, will perform at Minnesota State University Moorhead on Wednesday, Oct. 9 at 7:30 p.m. in the Roland Dille Center for the Arts Hansen Theatre. It's sponsored by the Cheryl Nelson Lossett Performing Arts Series.

Taiko is the Japanese word for drum and refers to the modern style of playing these drums. Wadaiko (in Japan) and kumi daiko (in North America) is movement-infused, heart-pounding, dynamic group drumming.

TaikoArts Midwest uses the art form of taiko to empower and strengthen their local community by enveloping the audience in the experience of power, rhythm and grace. Experiencing a taiko performance has been compared to "feeling the heartbeat of the world" and leaves many inspired as they feel the pounding of the large Japanese drums in their chests during a performance.

TaikoArts Midwest has taught thousands of students of all ages and abilities through performances, studio classes, and school residencies. Get tickets at mnstate.edu/tickets or Monday-Friday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and 60 minutes prior to start time.
