Altoona’s Sasha Mohoruk named AMCC Defensive Player of the Week

NORTH BOSTON, N.Y. - Penn State Altoona goalkeeper Sasha Mohoruk, of State College, was selected as the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference's Defensive Player of the Week in men's soccer on Monday, Sept. 16.

Mohoruk tied the Penn State Altoona men's soccer program's single-game saves record on Thursday, Sept. 12, helping lead the Lions to their first victory of the 2024 season.

Mohoruk stopped 16 shots between the pipes on Thursday, Sept. 12, as the Lions earned their first win of the year in a 1-0 shutout of non-conference opponent Saint Vincent College. His 16 saves tied the Penn State Altoona record for the most saves in a game, matching the 16 stops made by former Lion Tim Rankin on Sept. 3, 2011, in a contest at Salisbury University.

Through four games this season, Mohoruk currently leads all AMCC keepers in save percentage (.806) and shutouts (1) while ranking second in saves (29) and third in goals-against average (2.00).

Penn State Altoona men's soccer is 1-3 this season and has its home opener on Saturday, Sept. 21, at 6 p.m. against non-conference foe Wilson College.
