This rapidly evolving battlefield demands that warfighters continuously adapt, heightening the importance of maintaining battlefield superiority and ensuring warfighter safety amidst increasing geopolitical volatility.
Introducing Diamondback: L3Harris' innovative autonomous reconnaissance and security system, designed for rapid reconfiguration to meet any mission and outpace threats. Developed in collaboration with Overland AI, this prototype system debuted at the Association of the United States Army's annual meeting from Oct. 14-16 in Washington, D.C. It heralds a new era for R&S operations, where autonomous vehicles augment crewed systems, expanding coverage, minimizing risk, and enabling Soldiers to detect, engage, and react quicker than adversaries.
"Diamondback showcases L3Harris' enduring commitment to proactively address our customers' future challenges," said Ed Zoiss, President, Space and Airborne Systems, L3Harris. "We are confident that Diamondback will revolutionize tactical reconnaissance with its intelligent design, scalability, and cost-efficiency, enhancing soldier safety and providing a strategic advantage."
Scalable, modular and cost-effective
Diamondback is engineered with a flexible and open design, allowing Soldiers to quickly tailor it to the mission at hand and integrate cutting-edge tech as it emerges. Its use of widely available commercial parts simplifies scaling, upkeep, and upgrades, all while keeping costs in check. Plus, thanks to Overland AI's high-performance off-road base, Diamondback can rapidly navigate the tough landscapes Soldiers face in the field.
Collaborating with Overland AI on the Diamondback system is yet another example of L3Harris' role as the Trusted Disruptor in the defense industry, operating at the nexus of agile, rapid solution development and proven delivery for complex government programs. The company's relationship with Overland AI was facilitated through L3Harris' strategic partnership with venture capital firm Shield Capital. Through this strategic partnership, L3Harris collaborates with innovative companies across the commercial and defense technology ecosystems to address customers' growing requirements for agile solutions that can be rapidly fielded. "By merging L3Harris' proficiency in integrating complex systems with the nimble, innovative capabilities of companies like Overland AI, we craft a dynamic and disruptive approach in the defense market," Zoiss says.
