Redwood City, California - On September 27, 2024, at approximately 10:43 p.m., Redwood City Police Officers responded to reports of gunfire in the 1600 block of El Camino Real. While the tragic loss of life is under investigation, this incident highlights Redwood City's ongoing commitment to addressing gun violence through proactive measures and strategic partnerships.

"The safety of our community is our top priority. We are deeply committed to addressing gun violence in all its forms and remain focused on prevention through coordinated efforts," said Mayor Jeff Gee. "Our message is clear: we will continue to employ every resource at our disposal to ensure Redwood City remains a safe place for all residents."

Redwood City works closely with local, state and federal agencies to address criminal activity, particularly in cases that may involve gangs. These partnerships allow for the sharing of intelligence, resources and expertise, ensuring that the Redwood City Police Department can respond swiftly and effectively. By collaborating with specialized task forces and regional agencies, the City is better equipped to investigate complex cases and prevent future incidents of violence.

Tools like Flock Safety cameras have proven invaluable in helping law enforcement identify suspects and solve cases. These automated license plate reader systems provide crucial real-time data, allowing officers to track suspicious vehicles involved in criminal activity and respond to threats. In addition to their role in investigations, Flock cameras act as a deterrent, reducing opportunities for crime. These technological advancements, along with robust policy initiatives such as gun buyback programs, limitations on firearm sales, and increased community outreach, play a key role in the City's ongoing efforts to combat gun violence.

"Building strong relationships within our community is essential to enhancing public safety. We are committed to engaging with residents, listening to their concerns, and providing resources that address the root causes of violence," said Police Chief Kristina Bell.

The Redwood City Police Department continues to actively investigate recent incidents and encourages anyone with information to come forward by contacting Lieutenant Jeff Clements by calling (650) 780-7142 or emailing [email protected].
