Former TTUS Regent Joins ASU Foundation Board

Mickey Long, the first Angelo State alumnus to serve on the Texas Tech University System Board of Regents, has joined the Board of Trustees for the Angelo State University Foundation, a public, nonprofit organization established to provide financial assistance to ASU, primarily through gifts and earnings on endowed funds.

A 1976 ASU graduate and former Rams football player, Long is president of the Midland-based Westex/WLP Well Service energy company. He served on the TTUS Board of Regents from 2009-20, including a stint as chairman from 2013-16. A long-time supporter of ASU, he has also served on the ASU Carr Foundation Board of Trustees and made significant contributions to the ASU athletics program. Additionally, he chaired the search committees in 2012 and 2020 for ASU's two most recent presidents.

In 2009, Long and his wife, Renee (also Class of 1976), were named Distinguished Alumni by the ASU Alumni Association, and he was enshrined in the ASU Athletics Hall of Honor in 2019.

Jamie Mayer"We are honored to welcome Mickey Long to the ASU Foundation board," said Jamie Mayer, vice president for external affairs. "Not only is he a highly successful alumnus, he has tirelessly supported the Ram Family since even before he joined the TTUS Board of Regents. He knows Angelo State inside and out, and his knowledge and experience will be tremendous assets to the ASU Foundation, as will his undeniable affection for his alma mater."

Long joins the ASU Foundation at a crucial time as Angelo State conducts its five-year "Leading the Charge" capital campaign. The campaign will run through ASU's centennial celebration in 2028 with the goal of raising $128 million to fund a wide variety of academic, student life and athletics initiatives. To date, the campaign has raised about $78.6 million.

With the addition of Long, the ASU Foundation Board of Trustees now has 15 members, also including:
