London Stansted is proud to announce that this year's Royal British Legion (RBL) Poppy Appeal stand raised an incredible £21,368, smashing last year's record of £15,230.
Over 15 days leading up to Remembrance Sunday, the stand in the airport's terminal, was staffed by 71 dedicated civilian volunteers, including several first-time airport employees. They worked tirelessly to fill 120 three-hour shifts, starting at 6am and finishing at 6pm.
In addition to the civilian volunteers, the 33 and 35 Royal Engineers Regiments, based at Carver Barracks, supplied 49 troops who played a crucial role in supporting the appeal.
Dan Turpin, the airport's Community Engagement Manager, said:
"We are very proud of our passengers and staff for raising almost £21,000 for the Poppy Appeal at the airport. It's heartwarming to see the airport community come together to support such an important cause, and we're honoured to play a role in helping the Royal British Legion provide essential support to veterans and their families."
RBL's Simon Bambridge said:
"The funds raised will help support the Royal British Legion's work with veterans and their families, ensuring they receive the care and support they deserve. A sincere thank you to everyone who volunteered and to the passengers and staff who generously donated. The contributions will make a real difference to the lives of those who have served our country."
