Tarleton State Tennis continues fall campaign at Mountaineer Hidden Duals

BOONE, N.C. - Tarleton State Tennis will compete in its second fall event when it goes to the Mountaineer Hidden Duals starting Thursday.

The Mountaineer Hidden Duals, originally scheduled for Friday through Sunday, will now take place Thursday through Sunday due to projected inclement weather in the Boone, North Carolina, area. The Texans will go to Boone, North Carolina, before traveling to Abilene, Texas for the Wildcat Invite Sept. 27-29. Tarleton State will not compete at the Diving Eagle Invitational Sept. 20-22 in Denton, Texas.

Tarleton State will go up against Mercer, Queens University of Charlotte and host school App State in a dual style event.

Junior defeated all of her singles opponents from McNeese, Stephen F. Austin and Texas State in the Texans' first fall event at the Texas State Invite last week. The Guatemalan clinched the 10-point tiebreak in her first singles match after dropping the first set, winning her next two matches in straight sets.

Junior won both her singles matches in the Texas State Invite against opponents from Stephen F. Austin and Texas State. Sobius was one of two Texans to be named to the WAC All-Tournament Team last year.

After winning both of its doubles matches as a pair last spring, the momentum between senior and junior continued in Fall 2024. Lorca and Persson swept all of its doubles opponents to begin the fall campaign with a 3-0 record.

Host school App State finished the 2023-24 season as Sun Belt Conference finalists, earning a trip to the Universal Tennis NIT Championship in the process. This will be App State's first event of the fall season.

Queens University of Charlotte is in its third season as an NCAA Division I institution while Mercer went 14-8 last season on its way to the Southern Conference Semifinals.

Under head coach in five years at the Division I level, Tarleton State has won the WAC Coach of the Year award, the WAC Player of the Year award, the WAC Freshman of the Year award, and 14 All-Conference honors (seven Singles All-WAC First Team, one Doubles All-WAC First Team, five Singles All-WAC Second Team, one Doubles All-WAC Second Team). The Texans have also earned 33 midseason monthly or weekly awards (two Singles Player of the Month, one Doubles Team of the Month, 15 Singles Player of the Week, and 15 Doubles Team of the Week).
