Victim Killed in South Los Angeles Carjacking NRM24-15ma

Los Angeles:The Los Angeles Police Department's South Bureau Homicide detectives are investigating a carjacking incident where the victim was killed after falling from the vehicle and being run over by the suspect.

On Friday, September 27, 2024, around 11:35 a.m., the suspect, later identified as 33-year-old Bryan Rodriguez, stole a white box truck being used by the victim near the area of Martin Luther King Boulevard and Buckingham Road. The victim attempted to intercede and hung on to the truck as Rodriguez drove away. Multiple 911 calls were made as the vehicle was observed driving southbound through South Los Angeles with the victim still hanging on the side. Eventually, officers encountered the truck still driven by Rodriguez near Florence Avenue and Broadway. The truck drove away from officers, and the victim fell from the vehicle. After falling, the victim was run over by the truck as Rodriguez was driving it. Officers stopped their vehicle and summoned an ambulance for the victim, who was transported to a local hospital where he was pronounced deceased. Other officers then pursued Rodriguez. Multiple stop sticks were deployed, and the truck stopped near Normandie Avenue and Vernon Avenue, where Rodriguez was taken into custody.

Rodriguez, a resident of Los Angeles, was arrested and booked at the 77th Area Jail, where he is being held without bail.

The victim has been identified as a 59-year-old male who is a resident of Los Angeles. Investigators are currently in the process of notifying family members before releasing additional victim information.
