L.A. Area Chamber Applauds Governor's Veto of SB 1047

by L.A. Area Chamber

LOS ANGELES, CA - September 30, 2024 - The Los Angeles Area Chamber of Commerce issued the following statement regarding Governor Gavin Newsom's veto of SB 1047 (Wiener), the Safe and Secure Innovation for Frontier Artificial Intelligence Models Act:

"The Chamber applauds the Governor's decision to veto SB 1047. This bill would have created unnecessary confusion in an already fragmented AI regulatory landscape," said Maria S. Salinas, President & CEO of the Los Angeles Area Chamber of Commerce. "By regulating AI technology rather than its high-risk applications, SB 1047 would have introduced significant regulatory uncertainty, imposed high compliance costs, and posed substantial liability risks for developers in preventing harmful uses of their models. By rejecting SB 1047, the Governor has taken a significant step toward fostering a more supportive environment for innovation in California."
