American College of Veterinary Preventive Medicine – July 13, 2024

Event

The American College of Veterinary Preventive Medicine (ACVPM) held its annual diplomate meeting virtually on July 13.

Awards

Helwig-Jennings Award

Drs. Gary Bowman (Ohio State '67), Columbus, Ohio, and Andrew Bowman (Ohio State '07), Columbus, Ohio, for outstanding and prolonged service to the ACVPM. Dr. Gary Bowman served on the veterinary faculty of The Ohio State University prior to retirement. He is a diplomate of the ACVPM. Dr. Andrew Bowman is an associate professor in the Department of Veterinary Preventive Medicine Ohio State's College of Veterinary Medicine. He is also a diplomate of the ACVPM. Drs. Bowman were honored for their oversight of logistical and technical aspects of several annual ACVPM board certification examinations conducted at The Ohio State University and ensuring that the examinations were executed professionally.

Distinguished Diplomate Award

Dr. Joni Scheftel (Minnesota '82), Mayer, Minnesota, for significant contributions to the specialty of veterinary preventive medicine. A diplomate of the ACVPM, Dr. Scheftel recently retired as state public health veterinarian with the Minnesota Department of Health. During her career, she has made significant contributions to the advancement of public health, One Health, and government service.

Frank A. Todd President's Award

Dr. Morgan Mander (Tennessee '10), Alexandria, Virginia, for significant and meritorious service to the ACVPM. A diplomate of the ACVPM, Dr. Mander is a lieutenant colonel in the Army Veterinary Corps. An active volunteer with the college, she serves as chair of the ACVPM Membership and Outreach Committee.
