International President Costa kicked off another ATU Public Transportation Agency Safety Plan Accountability (PTASP) training to assist our Locals in the U.S. on the FTA's recently issued General Directive. More than 70 Local leaders took part in this innovative training to provide resources for our Locals to ensure our transit agencies work to implement critical safety committees and other measures under the bipartisan Infrastructure law, which our Union helped to get passed.
"This is an important training on these critical Safety Committees under the bipartisan Infrastructure law that we helped secure under the current Administration. The FTA recently issued General Directive 24-1 that will hold our transit agencies accountable on these safety committees," International President John Costa told the attendees. "With the epidemic of attacks on our members, increased violence and drug use on our transit systems, and other safety concerns, these Safety Committees are critical to our members and Union. Thank you for your leadership and taking time to take part in this invaluable training to ensure our members' safety on the job.."
Conducted by ATU Health and Safety Director Andrew Falotico, Training and Education Administrator Russell Bateman, and Associate General Counsel Laura Karr, the training covered PTASP and their requirements, updates on FTA General Directive regarding safety plans and risk reduction programs, and checklists to help locals review updated safety plans. #ATUStrongerTogether
