Readout from US Immigration and Customs Enforcement meeting with LaSalle Corrections executives

WASHINGTON - U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement Chief of Staff Michael Lumpkin met with leaders from LaSalle Corrections this week to discuss detention operations and the agency's commitment to providing healthy, safe and humane environments for those in custody. Engagements with detention contractors such as LaSalle Corrections are vital; they enable U.S. government officials and the private sector to come together to plan and implement appropriate, efficient and fiscally responsible care.

The nation's immigration and detention systems depend on privately owned detention facilities. In some cases, detention is necessary to ensure migrants remain engaged in the immigration process or facilitate removals from the United States. The U.S. government also detains undocumented noncitizens who threaten public safety and national security, as well as those who are required to remain in government custody under current immigration law. ICE manages administrative custody in one of the world's most highly transient, diverse populations while ensuring all noncitizens reside in safe, secure and humane conditions while in custody.
