Norfolk Community Services Board Hosting Mental Health Event

NORFOLK, Va. - In support of Minority Mental Health Awareness Month, Norfolk Community Services Board has partnered with Project ORF to bring the community together for an evening of connection, healing and support with Surviving Through Mental Health on July 11 from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the historic Attucks Theatre (1010 Church St.).

This event focuses on how mental health concerns show up differently in young, minority and underserved communities and how collaboration can make a positive impact.

Highlights include panel discussions moderated and will feature mental health experts, activists and survivors, including Dr. Krystal Vaughn from Cornerstone Therapeutic Services; educator and mental health interventionist, Kim Ambrose; Kamron Blue, LCSW, CHKD's Safer Futures Program Coordinator; Dr. Kristie Norwood, clinical psychologist from Hampton University; Dr. Tonya Shell, from Norfolk State University and more. Norfolk City Councilwoman Danica Royster will deliver opening remarks. Additionally, dozens of community partners in mental health and wellness will be in attendance with outreach and information opportunities.

There will also be fun and engaging activities, prizes, raffles, refreshments, music, giveaways and more!

Individuals, families and friends of all ages are welcome to attend and participate, especially teens and young adults. Surviving Through Mental Health is a free event and registration is preferred but not required.
