New Policies Aim to Provide Youth in the Justice System with Essential Health Services

On August 27, 2024, at 2 p.m. ET, the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) and the Department of Justice (DOJ) will host a webinar about new policy approaches designed to connect youth involved in the justice system with Medicaid and Children's Health Insurance Program services.

The webinar will focus on the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) letter to state health officials addressing statutory requirements in the 2023 Consolidated Appropriations Act regarding the availability of certain state plan services for incarcerated youth in the Medicaid and the Children's Health Insurance Program (CHIP) and modification of CHIP eligibility requirements for children detained in juvenile or adult corrections systems, effective January 1, 2025.

DOJ and HHS leadership and subject matter experts will discuss how this opportunity will help advance health equity and build healthier and safer communities.
