Officer Hemmenway was honored with the Distinguished Service Cross Award. Here's why:

On May 13, 2023, while attending a family wedding in Memphis, Tennessee, Officer Hemmenway heard alarming news of a dangerous situation nearby. Drawing on his Baytown Police training, he quickly devised a plan. Joined by his cousin, also a Texas Peace Officer, they took action to ensure the safety of those around them.

Without proper protective gear or communication equipment, they proceeded to the location of the threat and began a thorough search of the premises. Memphis police soon arrived, and together, they continued the search until the situation was resolved.

We commend Officer Hemmenway for his bravery and dedication to protecting others, even while off duty. Thank you for all you do!
