Motorists Reminded to Use Route 6 Signed Detour in Troy Township, Bradford County

07/17/2024

Montoursville, PA - The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) reminds motorists traveling on Route 6 to attend the Troy Fair to use signed detours. The Troy Fair will take place between Monday, July 22 and Saturday July 27 in Troy Township, Bradford County.

Route 6 was closed in both directions between Leona Road (Route 4017) and Mud Creek Road (Route 3034) on Wednesday, June 12, after an oversized load struck and damaged the truss bridge over Sugar Creek.

Signed Detour

  • Passenger vehicles will use Leona Road, Route 4014 (Springfield Road), and Route 14.
  • Large trucks and Commercial vehicles will use Berwick Turnpike (Route 4013), Springfield Road, and Route 14.

PennDOT recommends motorists to use the signed detour routes to avoid damage to local roads and to keep the local roads available for emergency vehicles.

The official detour routes were established to provide, as much as possible, route consistency to Route 6 and to avoid placing detoured traffic on local roads that may not have the geometric or structural ability to accommodate detoured traffic.

Repair work on the damaged bridge began on Monday, July 8, 2024. The contractor has removed damaged steel members and performed nondestructive testing in preparation to replace the damaged steel members and perform heat straightening of those members that will not be replaced.

J.D. Eckman, Inc., is the prime contractor for this emergency bridge repair project. Work on this project includes removal of the damaged steel truss members and replacement with new steel beams, heat straightening, and miscellaneous repairs. Work is anticipated to be completed by the end of August 2024.
