Merced County

Rest Area, Lane & Ramp Closures
Interstate 5 And State Routes 33, 99 & 140

Merced County- The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) will perform various closures on Interstate 5 (I-5), State Route 33 (SR-33), SR-99, and SR-140 for maintenance and construction operations. Work is scheduled to occur as follows:

Interstate 5

  • Full closure of the John C. Erreca Rest Areas on northbound and southbound I-5 beginning Monday, April 4, 2022, through May 31, 2025.
    • ALTERNATE LOCATIONS: Motorists are advised to use the Coalinga-Avenal Rest Area (Fresno/Kings County line).

State Route 33

  • One-way traffic control from Carmellia Avenue to Sharon Lane for utility work on Friday, December 13, 2024, from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.

State Route 99

  • Full on-ramp closure on northbound SR-99 at Mission Avenue Over-Crossing for drainage work on Monday, December 9, through Friday, December 13, 2024, from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
  • Full on-ramp closure on northbound SR-99 at Collier Road Under-Crossing for bridge work on Thursday, December 12, 2024, from 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.

State Route 140

  • One-way traffic control at the San Joaquin River Bridge for bridge work beginning Tuesday, December 10, through Friday, December 13, 2024, from 7:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m.
  • Long-term one-way traffic control at the Los Banos Creek for bridge work beginning Monday, August 5, at 6:00 a.m. through Tuesday, December 31, 2024, at 6:00 a.m.
  • Long-term full closure from 5th Street to Fifth Avenue in Gustine for construction work beginning Monday, April 22, at 6:00 a.m. through Tuesday, December 31, 2024, at 6:00 a.m.

Motorists should expect 5-to-10-minute delays and use alternate routes whenever possible. This work is scheduled to occur as listed but is subject to change due to traffic incidents, weather, availability of equipment/materials, and construction-related issues.
