Boil Advisory Cancelled – July 20, 2024

The City of Elyria has cancelled the Precautionary Boil Advisory, dated July 18, 2024. Water can now be used normally for all purposes.

Due to the power outage and switch issue at the Elyria Water Plant this past Thursday, the system temporarily experienced reduced water pressure. Staff and crews immediately implemented contingency plans and worked through the night to successfully restore power and water pressure.

While no contamination was suspected in the system, EPA protocols dictated a boil advisory be issued until full testing could be completed. Today, the EPA reviewed the tests and confirmed there was no contamination throughout this incident. Therefore, the boil advisory can now be lifted.

If you have not a run a tap for several hours, it is recommended you run the water for approximately one minute before use. This is to flush any stale water that has been standing in your home's plumbing.

Thank you to the many Elyrians who helped share the alerts and information with neighbors, family and friends. If you have not already done so, we recommend you sign up today to receive alerts from the Wireless Emergency Notifications (WENS) system at cityofelyria.org.
