On September 15, 2024, State Police members arrested Brian J. Compton, age 36, of Fort Covington, NY, for assault 2nd, and strangulation 2nd.

On September 15, 2024, at approximately 5:13 a.m., Troopers were notified of a domestic disputer that occurred on County Route 4 in the town of Fort Covington. A preliminary investigation determined Compton and the victim were involved in a physical domestic. Compton placed his hands around the victim's neck causing the victim to lose consciousness and then threw the victim on the ground causing a rib injury. The victim was treated at the University of Vermont Health Network at Alice Hyde Medical Center.

Compton was arrested and processed. He was arraigned in the Town of Westville Court, where he was remanded to Franklin County Jail in lieu of $5,000 cash or $10,000 bond.
