Chairwoman Stabenow Statement on Assistance for Producers Who Experienced Discrimination

WASHINGTON - Senator Debbie Stabenow (D-MI), Chairwoman of the Senate Agriculture, Nutrition, and Forestry Committee, Wednesday released the following statement after the Biden-Harris Administration announced financial assistance to more than 43,000 farmers, ranchers, and forest landowners who experienced discrimination in USDA farm lending programs prior to January 2021. In the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA), Congress allocated $2.2 billion for the program.

"Today was a historic and welcome step forward to address longstanding and widespread discrimination at the United States Department of Agriculture. I was proud to work with my colleagues to secure these resources, but there is more to do. I will continue working with the Administration on long term solutions to address systemic discrimination within federal farm programs."
