Labor Day Weekend Art Exhibit to Feature Oklahoma Artists at Kauger Gallery

The Kauger Gallery of Art in Colony, Oklahoma, will host a visual art exhibit featuring several well-known Oklahoma artists over Labor Day weekend. The event's Grand Opening is scheduled for Saturday, Aug. 31, from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m. The exhibit will continue on Sunday, Sept. 1, and Monday, Sept. 2, with viewing hours from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m. each day.

The art exhibit showcases a range of creative works available for purchase, highlighting the talent of artists from across Western Oklahoma. Featured artists include the following:

  • Joe London, retired chairman of the Southwestern Oklahoma State University (SWOSU) Visual Art Department, presenting new works of art.

  • James South, retired SWOSU music professor, displaying photographic pieces.

  • Glenda Ross,SWOSU art professor, showcasing her latest paintings.

  • Patty Lack, an artist from Mountain View, Okla., with paintings of Western Oklahoma.

  • Karin Stafford, a noted supporter of the arts in Western Oklahoma, exhibiting her recent pottery works.

  • Brent Learned, a nationally recognized Native artist, whose pieces are held in numerous galleries and private collections.

  • Amber Shepherd, Assistant Director of Art at the University of Oklahoma, presenting new works.

  • Jaden Pebeahsy, a senior art student at Cameron University, exhibiting Native American-themed paintings.

  • Jim VanDeman, an artist-in-residence at the Colony Gallery and Native artist, showcasing new drawings and paintings.

  • Glen Henry, sculptor and professor at Cameron University, featuring recent sculptures.

  • Patrick Riley, retired chairman of the SWOSU Visual Art Department, presenting paintings and masks. Riley will also lead a mask-making demonstration during the opening of the art exhibit.

In addition to the visual art, live music will be performed by Trey Hayes, an artist and teacher from Tishomingo, Okla., and a 2024 recipient of the Governor's Arts Award in Arts Education from the Oklahoma Arts Council. Lonnie Yearwood, a member of the Colony Community Action Committee, will oversee the exhibit and display historical photos of the town of Colony in the Colony Museum.

This event offers an opportunity to engage with Western Oklahoma's artistic community and explore a diverse range of art. The exhibit's opening on Saturday, Aug. 31, promises to be an enriching experience for all who attend.
