Horacio Rozanski has been elected chair of the Children's National
Board of Directors. Rozanski, who is the president and chief executive officer of Booz Allen Hamilton, Inc., has been a member of the Children's National board since 2019 and most recently served as treasurer. He succeeds Jeff Zients, who was appointed by President Joe Biden to serve as coordinator of the COVID-19 Response and counselor to the President.
"We are so fortunate to have a leader of Horacio's caliber guiding Children's National Hospital during an incredibly challenging time for health systems around the country," says
Kurt Newman, M.D., president and CEO of Children's National. "Horacio's proven leadership and expertise in driving strategic transformations will serve this organization, and more importantly, our patients and families very well. He will pick up right where Jeff left off, and we are all grateful for Jeff's service to Children's National."
Born and raised in Argentina, Rozanski originally came to the United States to attend college. He holds a bachelor of business administration from the University of Wisconsin Eau Claire and master of business administration from the University of Chicago. He joined Booz Allen, a global technology and consulting company, as a summer intern nearly 30 years ago and served as chief personnel officer, chief strategy and talent officer, and president and chief operating officer at the firm before becoming CEO in 2015.
"I am honored, humbled and excited to take the chair role," Rozanski says. "Children's National and its amazing staff have improved and saved countless lives, leaving an indelible print on the hearts of millions of families in the D.C. area and beyond. I look forward to working with my colleagues on the board and the management team to continue this institution's impressive record of success."
Throughout his career, Rozanski has made the advancement of diversity, equity and inclusion a centerpiece of his leadership, and last July, Booz Allen publicly committed to a six-point Race and Social Equity Agenda. The Washington Business Journal (WBJ) honored him as a 2020 CEO of the Year by naming Rozanski the Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Champion. In the WBJ profile, he says that he "has always wanted his employees to feel like they can be themselves at work, unobstructed and undiminished, able to bring the entirety of their lives, experiences and expertise to the job."
Rozanski is a member of the CARE Board of Directors, the U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum's Committee on Conscience, the Kennedy Center Corporate Fund Board and the Aerospace Industries Association Finance Committee. In 2020, he was named a recipient of the Horatio Alger Award, which is given to individuals who epitomize personal initiative, perseverance, leadership and commitment to excellence as well as believe in the free-enterprise system and the importance of higher education and community service. Award recipients also have the vision and determination to achieve a better future.
