Press release
I condemn the killing of journalist Hassan Zaib. I urge authorities to investigate this killing and bring its perpetrators to justice. Impunity for such violent crimes against journalists should never be allowed.
Hassan Zaib was a journalist for local TV outlet, Aaj News, and was a member of the Khyber Union of Journalists and the Peshawar Press Club. He was reportedly shot by two assailants while travelling in a vehicle with his brother. He is the seventh journalist killed in Pakistan since the beginning of the year.
UNESCO promotes the safety of journaliststhrough global awareness-raising, capacity building and by coordinating the implementation of the UN Plan of Actionon the Safety of Journalists and the Issue of Impunity.
