Anglesey-Based Game Designer Announces First Release – Standoffish

Inspired by spaghetti western films and comics, Standoffish puts players in the boots of cowboys stuck in a tense Mexican standoff. They must negotiate, cooperate, lie, and backstab their way to victory by completing their secret objectives while preventing other players from doing the same.

Archdruid is a game designer and programmer from Anglesey who's been making games for over a decade. Rhun Jones started Archdruid Interactive in 2024 with support from Menter Môn and the West Cheshire and North Wales Chamber of Commerce to create his first commercial project, Standoffish.

"I've wanted to be a games designer for as long as I can remember, after playing games like SimCity and Rollercoaster Tycoon on the family computer as a child," explains Rhun.

"I started learning from books my parents bought me, then college followed by university. I wanted to use my skills to make my own games, so I decided not to work for a studio straight out of uni. Instead, I was lucky enough to be able to work for my parents at their brewery, Bragdy Cybi. It's hard work but it gives me the time off I need to work on prototypes for games. Standoffish was just the latest of these prototypes, but we had so much fun with it that I decided to develop it further."

"Mam suggested I apply for the Hwb Menter Support Package, and I was pleasantly surprised to have got it! Five months later, I'm very happy to be able to officially announce Standoffish, and looking forward to finally being able to share it with you all in 2025!"
