As part of its Del Mar Bluffs Stabilization 5 project, SANDAG has scheduled round-the-clock construction between Seagrove Park to south of 4th Street from 12:30 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 16, through 5 a.m. Monday, Nov. 18.
To stabilize Del Mar's fragile bluffs, the transportation planning agency is driving steel pilings at various locations along the railway between Seagrove Park and Carmel Valley Road. Construction and intermittent night work is scheduled to continue through mid-2027.
During the so-called "Absolute Work Window," all train service will be suspended as crews drill and drive pilings between 9th and 13th streets, haul the spoils of drilled holes off the bluff and transport loads of concrete to the work area to set the steel piles. South of 4th Street, crews will pour concrete to reinforce existing pilings.
SANDAG warns that residents near the work areas could notice lighting and equipment noise throughout the weekend. Loud, ongoing construction noise from large drilling equipment will be audible west of Camino del Mar throughout the weekend.
Equipment and materials will enter and exit the railway at 8th, 11th and 12th streets, Coast Boulevard and from the north parking lot at Torrey Pines State Beach. In these areas, SANDAG has planned temporary parking restrictions and traffic control.
Blufftop pedestrian trails near work areas adjacent to the North Torrey Pines Road and Carmel Valley Road intersection and at the ends of 11thand 12th streets will be temporarily closed throughout the weekend. SANDAG reminds the public it is not safe to enter construction areas.
Throughout the three-year project, SANDAG has scheduled several Absolute Work Windows to advance crucial tasks and shorten the overall construction timeline.
