Manchin Announces $2.8 Million for Boone Memorial Hospital, West Virginia University

Charleston, WV - Today, U.S. Senator Joe Manchin (I-WV), member of the Senate Appropriations Committee, announced Boone Memorial Hospital will receive $2,202,000 and West Virginia University will receive $619,477 from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS). These federal investments will help enhance Boone Memorial Hospital's surgical unit and further West Virginia University's research into responses to environmental health hazards. The funding for Boone Memorial Hospital was secured through a Congressionally Directed Spending (CDS) request Senator Manchin secured on behalf of West Virginia through the Fiscal Year 2024 funding bill.

"I'm proud to have secured direct funding to support the enhancement of Boone Memorial Health's surgical unit and help strengthen West Virginia University's research into handling environmental health hazards," said Senator Manchin. "I look forward to seeing the positive impacts of these important initiatives, and as a member of the Senate Appropriations Committee, I will continue advocating for resources to help ensure all West Virginians have the health services they need.

The Senate Appropriations Committee allows members of Congress to submit CDS requests, which provides an opportunity for state and local governments, non-profits, and other public entities to receive targeted funding for projects that bolster their communities and directly support West Virginians. As a member of the Senate Appropriations Committee, Senator Manchin works to ensure taxpayer dollars are allocated to priorities that benefit all West Virginians, boost economic growth and support the needs of communities across the Mountain State while remaining fiscally responsible.
