In the News: Protecting our way of life on Northern Minnesota’s lakes

Last week, Congressman Pete Stauber (MN-08) authored an editorial highlighting the importance of boating and fishing in his Northern Minnesota district. The piece, published in the Brainerd Dispatch emphasizes the importance of balancing the protection of our environment and access to our nation's waters without curbing recreational opportunities.

In his editorial the congressman writes:

"The long-term health and success of the recreational boating economy and the ability for Minnesotans to recreate on the water are tied to the ability to access our waters. That means Minnesotans deserve quality recreational infrastructure."

He continues, "Investments are urgently needed to support the immense role outdoor recreation plays as a major economic engine throughout the country. Boating and fishing are a leading contributor to the $1.1 trillion outdoor recreation economy. Hurdles in access can deter folks from visiting our great state, impacting local businesses relying on those visitors spending their hard-earned dollars on family vacations."

Boating and fishing are deeply engrained in the land of 10,000 lakes and recreational boating and fishing contribute more than $6 billion in economic impact annually and support over 25,000 jobs and 700 businesses in Minnesota.
