Seminar organised by the Social Security Institution in cooperation with the Polish SA

On June 19, 2024, a seminar "Data processing by the Social Insurance Institution and insurance contribution payers in connection with the implementation of statutory obligations. Practical aspects" was held in Wrocław. This was the first event in a series of three seminars related to the subject of personal data protection, organised by the Social Insurance Institution in cooperation with the Personal Data Protection Office.

The event covered issues related to the formation of the status of entities keeping public registers and related consequences and obligations. The subject of the use of artificial intelligence (AI) in the process of inspecting contributors was also discussed, as well as any related dilemmas concerning the protection of personal data.

The conference was officially opened by Zbigniew Derdziuk, the President of the Social Security Institution. In his speech, he highlighted that artificial intelligence represents both a huge challenge and a risk. He pointed out that before we can start implementing new technologies related to AI, we need to adapt laws and regulations.

During his speech, Konrad Komornicki, the Deputy President of the Personal Data Protection Office, paid special attention to the role of human being in data processing, i.e. the protection of his/her privacy and data. "New technology, artificial intelligence, while securing human rights and freedoms of- his/her personal data, is an ally of development," - concluded Konrad Komornicki.

The discussion panel, concluding the Seminar, focused on the topic of using artificial intelligence. The speakers, summarising their speeches, came to the common conclusion that the development of new technologies, including artificial intelligence, opens up enormous opportunities. They pointed out that AI can significantly improve the efficiency of processes, support innovation and contribute to the development of many sectors of the economy, however, a key aspect of this development is the provision of appropriate safeguards.
