At last night's Regular Assembly meeting, the Anchorage Assembly unanimously approved (12-0) an amended version of the Municipality's 2024 general government operating budget that restores quality municipal services, prioritizes improving the quality of life for families and kids, and takes additional steps toward addressing the city's long-term maintenance challenges.

"Crafting a balanced budget that meets the diverse needs of our community is no simple task," said Assembly Chair Christopher Constant. "The budget we passed tonight reflects our values and is a return to good government-a government that functions between branches, collaborates with community members, and delivers quality public services people can rely on."

As amended, the 2025 General Government Operating Budget includes the following major priorities that advance the Assembly's priorities:

  • Significant investments to rebuild the municipal fleet, including snowplow equipment, and working to reduce the Municipality's maintenance backlog
  • Stabilizing the Municipal workforce to fill positions and retain workers so the Municipality can offer timely and quality services
  • Making our community safer by expanding the Mobile Crisis Team to implement 24/7 services and improving wildfire mitigation efforts.
  • Continuing impactful local investments in child care, child abuse prevention, addressing homelessness and creating more housing

Alongside the 2025 General Government Operating Budget, the Assembly set the 2025 Alcohol Tax and Marijuana Tax Budgets.

"We get what we pay for," said Assembly Budget & Finance Committee Co-Chair Anna Brawley. "Notably, this is the first year the Municipality is distributing marijuana tax dollars voters dedicated to child care and early education, now known as the ACCEE Fund. Going forward, this funding will complement and expand the community prevention and education programs we have been able to support through dedicated alcohol tax revenues. This is a substantial investment into some of the biggest pressures on our residents and the local economy, and while it will take some time to see the impact of these funds, I'm grateful to voters for continuing to support investments in our families, and our future."

The Assembly also passed the utilities and enterprise operating and capital budgets. Final budget documents will be posted to the Office of Management & Budget website: ancgov.info/budget
