Loyola University New Orleans is proud to announce the promotion of Daniel Spangler to Chief of Police for the Loyola University Police Department (LUPD). Spangler assumes the role following the recent retirement of Chief Todd Warren.
Chief Spangler brings more than 24 years of experience in public safety and law enforcement to his new position. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Psychology and an Associate Degree in Criminal Justice from Northwestern State University. Before joining LUPD, Spangler spent 12 years with the Louisiana Department of Corrections, Division of Probation and Parole, where he specialized in community supervision and public safety.
A dedicated member of the Loyola community for over a decade, Chief Spangler has built strong relationships across campus, amassed significant institutional knowledge, and served in key leadership roles, including Deputy Chief and Interim Chief of Police. His tenure at Loyola has been marked by his steadfast commitment to the safety and well-being of students, faculty, staff, and visitors.
"Chief Spangler has proven time and again that he is a trusted leader and advocate for campus safety," said Carol Markowitz, Senior Vice President and Chief Operations Officer. "His extensive experience, dedication to our community, and visionary leadership make him the ideal choice to lead LUPD into the future."
