Kevin Griffith, PhD

Kevin Griffith, PhD, of QUERI's Partnered Evidence-based Policy Resource Center (PEPReC), presented a poster on VA community care at the 2024 Patient-Centered Outcomes Research Institute's (PCORI) Annual Meeting, and at PCORI's Annual Congressional Science Fair on Capitol Hill. The Congressional Science Fair provides an opportunity to bring PCORI-funded research directly to congressional staff and other health policy professionals.

Dr. Griffith and his co-authors' work on VA community care, which was published as a research letter in JAMA Network Open, examined the breadth and representativeness of VA's community care network (CCN). Their results demonstrated that the CCN encompasses more than 440,000 physicians nationally, including 58% of those who participate in Medicare. However, participation varied from 39% to 89% by state and 31% to 78% by specialty. Compared to physicians who did not participate in the CCN, participating physicians were more likely to practice in rural areas and had higher federal quality ratings.

Dr. Griffith's work strives to improve incentive design and effectiveness of public programs and to encourage policies that are informed by evidence. He is particularly interested in improving Veterans' access to care, nursing scope of practice reform, and the effects of health information exchange on healthcare cost and quality.
