Ronnie Gonzalez Appointed Midwest Territory Special Representative

IAM International President Brian Bryant has appointed Ronnie Gonzalez as an IAM Midwest Territory Special Representative, effective Jan. 1, 2025.

Gonzalez's dedication to his community and peers has been evident throughout his career. Gonzalez has served as IAM Mechanics' Union Local 701 Business Representative since 2020.

Gonzalez has been a member of the IAM for 30 years, spending the majority of his career in the automotive sector with renowned companies such as Mount Prospect Cadillac and Cadillac of Naperville. Notably, during the 2017 Standard Automotive Agreement Strike, he demonstrated exceptional leadership as strike captain, navigating one of the most challenging picket lines in recent memory.

Beyond his leadership within the IAM, Gonzalez is an active delegate at the Chicago Federation of Labor, where he advocates for labor rights and collaborates with unions and affiliates to promote solidarity among workers. Additionally, he serves as a Trustee in training on the Local's 401(k) Fund, ensuring that his fellow members understand the vital financial resources for their future retirement.

"Ronnie's passion for the IAM and strong commitment to the working people make him an ideal addition to the Midwest Territory staff," said IAM Midwest Territory General Vice President Sam Cicinelli. "His extensive background in the automotive industry, particularly during challenging times, showcases his resilience and leadership capabilities. With his Union values, tenacity, and diligence, he will make a significant impact in his new role."

Gonzalez is also deeply committed to fostering community spirit and camaraderie among union members. He spearheads IAM Mechanics Union Local 701's Motorcycle Club and Sportsmen's Club, which provides members with opportunities to connect and build strong bonds outside the workplace.
