San Francisco-Oakland Bay Bridge (Westbound I-80) Nighttime Partial Lane Closures for Annual Holiday Wreath Placement

Saturday, November 16, 11 PM - Sunday, November 17, 7:30 AM

San Francisco - Caltrans and Bay Area Toll Authority (BATA) have scheduled a partial lane closure to install its holiday wreath above the Yerba Buena Tunnel entrance on westbound I-80. The lane closures begin Saturday, November 16 at 11 PM, and will reopen by 7:30 AM on Sunday, November 17. Motorists should expect up to four lanes to be closed just after the toll plaza metering lights. At least one lane will remain open to traffic.

The partial lane closure allows crews to add the festive, holiday décor above the entrance to the Yerba Buena Island tunnel. The closure is necessary to ensure the safety of the crews working on site, as well as the safety of the motorists, during the wreath hanging which has been a SFOBB holiday tradition for more than 80 years.

At 13 feet 8 inches tall and weighing 300 pounds, the wreath features a steel frame decorated with sparkling silver, gold, and red ornaments, numerous white lights, and a large red ribbon. The wreath installation has been a collaborative tradition between Caltrans and BATA for many years. Motorists traveling westbound I-80, approaching the tunnel will be able to view and enjoy the wreath throughout the holiday season.

On the same night of the wreath hanging lane closures, Caltrans is continuing its emergency barrier rail repairs on U.S. 101 and I-80 in San Francisco beginning Sunday November 17th at 12:01 AM to 11:59 PM. The westbound I-80 to northbound U.S. 101 connector ramp, and the southbound U.S. 101 Central Freeway on ramp at 7th & Harrison, will be closed.

Traffic Control Measures:
Changeable messages and directional signs will be in place to assist motorists traveling in the area. During the closures, the California Highway Patrol (CHP) will be at the sites. Please drive with caution. Caltrans thanks motorists for their patience while we work to maintain our state's highways, br
