Cal State LA has been named one of the best online schools in the country.
The university placed No. 8 on the list of the America's Top Online Learning Schools 2025, a survey conducted by Newsweek and the global data research firm Statista.
The list ranked the top 250 colleges that offer online undergraduate and graduate programs.
"For those looking to further their knowledge-from individual non-degree courses for the curious or for professional development to a full academic degree-online schools offer customized opportunities to people in all stages of life," said Nancy Cooper, Newsweek's global editor in chief. "With so many choices and no physical location to visit, finding the right program can be challenging."
The rankings were based on organization, support, price, reputation, success, recommendation, practical relevance, and overall satisfaction.
More than 10,000 individuals in the United States were surveyed. They included students who obtained their academic degrees through online courses, and individuals who acquired knowledge and skills for their jobs or hobbies.
Cooper foresees an expansion of online course learning. "Studies suggest online learning has yet to reach its peak and is expected to grow in coming years," she said.
The survey's top seven schools were Cal State Dominguez Hills (Carson, California), James Madison University (Harrisonburg, Virginia), Westmoreland County Community College (Youngwood, Pennsylvania), University of North Carolina at Greensboro (North Carolina), Berklee College of Music (Boston, Massachusetts), UMA Education, Inc. (Clearwater, Florida), and Oakland Community College (Auburn Hill, Michigan). Rounding out the top 10 were UC Irvine (California) and Hinds Community College (Raymond, Mississippi).
