Restricted Burning Period Begins Soon
The Restricted Burning Period (spring/summer) begins at 12.01am Saturday 9 November. A Permit to Burn will be required prior to lighting any fire in the open air and the Restricted Burning Period will remain in place until 22 December 2024 unless advised otherwise. This means that Permits to Burn will be required for any fires that are burning on Saturday morning, including any fires that were ignited prior to Saturday and are still burning.
Contact your local
Fire Control Officer (FCO) to apply for a Permit. These Permits are issued free of charge and come with some useful advice on how to conduct your burn safely, but please also remember that no fires are permitted when the Fire Danger Rating is HIGH or above. These ratings are available on the
Emergency WA website.
Although campfires and firepits are permitted on private property without a Permit, they cannot be lit before 6pm and must be extinguished by 11pm. A Permit to Burn is required outside of these times.
Adam Jasper, the Shire's Community Emergency Services Manager, is keen to remind the community to be armed with some vital information when they apply to their FCO for a Permit to Burn.
"When applying for a Permit to Burn you'll need to advise of the size of your burn, what you're burning and the address of your burn, as well as the name and contact number of the Permit holder," he explains.
"Don't forget to register your Permit to Burn with the Shire, DBCA and DFES - all their details and phone numbers are on the Permit. Your adjoining neighbours will need to know too, and all the information around how to formally notify them is on your Permit," he added.
Please stay alert and informed during this period as these dates can change at short notice due to variable weather conditions. For more information and updates please visit our website and social media pages.
