Mayor Bowser to Visit Moten Elementary School’s High-Impact Tutoring Program

(Washington, DC) -

On Monday, September 16 at 12:00 p.m., Mayor Muriel Bowser and DC Public Schools (DCPS) Chancellor Dr. Lewis D. Ferebee will visit Moten Elementary in Ward 8 to observe and speak with students in the high-impact tutoring (HIT) program.

Over the last three years, Mayor Bowser has championed a significant investment of over $45 million to level the playing field and establish tutoring as a free, in-school resource for students across the District. HIT supports students' academic and social-emotional recovery from the pandemic by creating new opportunities to build relationships with trusted adults. At Moten, the most recent statewide assessment scores showed gains of 8 percentage points in English language arts and 12 percentage points in math year-over-year, surpassing pre-pandemic levels.

It is anticipated that nearly 6,000 DCPS students will benefit from these critical learning services this year, a number that has doubled since School Year 2021-2022.
