A State Lecture Concert Series Set for 2024 2025 Season with First Event September 24

JONESBORO - The Lecture-Concert series at Arkansas State University will feature a myriad of performers and educators for the 2024-2025 season.

Dr. Ryan Sullivan, director of choral activities and vocal studies coordinator, said this annual series brings leaders of diverse backgrounds and expertise to the community.

"Many of the events this year include additional campus events that serve students and community members to enhance the cultural opportunities on our campus and beyond," said Sullivan, who serves as the chair of the Lecture-Concert Committee.

"This year's events will serve audiences interested in philosophy, entrepreneurship, music, racial identity, health professions and theatre."
On Tuesday, Sept. 24, at 7:30 p.m., Dr. Camille Ortiz will be featured at the recital hall of the Fine Arts Center in a recital of Spanish music from Latin America. Ortiz is an assistant professor of voice at the School of Music and Dance at the University of Oregon and is a versatile artist.
Artist and author Dr. Bryan Keith Hotchkins will speak in the Mockingbird Room of Reng Student Union at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 16. This event will allow participants to interactively reflect on their self-perceptions of race and other aspects of identity.
Also taking place on Wednesday, Oct. 16, at 7:30 p.m., composer and musician Isaac Cates will be featured in the Fine Arts Center recital hall. He will share his experiences of how sacred vocal music can draw connections between people of differing faiths and those who have no faith background.
Dr. Laura Soter, assistant professor of philosophy at York University in Toronto, will be featured in the auditorium of Reng Student Union on Thursday, Nov. 7, at 6 p.m. She has researched individuals' beliefs, mental control and moral psychology.
On Tuesday, Nov. 19, at 7 p.m., David Leong and Patti D'Beck will be in Simpson Theatre of Fowler Center. This duo will present a lecture titled, "So, What's Your Story?" exploring how to present lived experiences in job applications, making friends or writing a memoir.

On Thursday, Feb. 6, Dr. Jeffrey Carroll will be in the auditorium of Reng Student Union at 6 p.m. Carroll is an assistant professor in the John Chambers College of Business and Economics at West Virginia University. His research focuses on political and social philosophy and topics including where philosophy, politics and economics meet.

The second annual woodwind extravaganza will be held on Saturday, March 1, at 6 p.m. at Riceland Hall of Fowler Center. Featured artists include Dr. Brittney Trotter, assistant professor of practice in flute and woodwind program director at the University of the Pacific's Conservatory of Music. Dr. Bret Pimentel is a professor of music at Delta State University. He plays the saxophone, flute, oboe, clarinet and bassoon.
