Auction Raises Money for Students Working in Public Interest

In April, Seton Hall Law hosted the celebration of the annual Public Interest Law Auction. The Auction is sponsored by Seton Hall's Public Interest Network, a student run organization dedicated to raising awareness of individual and group rights and supports students attracted to public interest work.

Auction proceeds help fund the Public Interest Law Fellowship which is offered to students to support unpaid summer internships in nonprofit organizations or government agencies. Internships in public interest organizations provide students with invaluable legal experience and incredible career-building opportunities, however a lack of funding for summer employment can create hardship for students. This is why the Seton Hall Law community continues to provide funding for students and support them in their first steps of their legal career.

The event lasted four days and students were able to bid on items as they passed by the library until the end of the celebratory event on April 1st. Donated items included: dinner with beloved professors, Whole Foods gift cards, self-care items, Mets apparel, Seton Hall gear, Lululemon gift cards, and artwork among others. At the celebratory event Seton Hall students were able to enjoy a cocktail reception and meet some of the public interest attorneys who host Seton Hall Law students over the summer. At the culmination of the evening the Public Interest Network announced the winners of the auction items. This year the auction raised $6,333 for the fellowship which will afford several students the opportunity to receive funding for their summer internships in public interest.
