Teen Charged for Shooting at Police Officer

September 16, 2024, Peoria, IL- Today, a 16-year-old male was charged with Aggravated Discharge of a Firearm and Aggravated Unlawful Use of a Weapon for shooting at a police officer Thursday night in South Peoria. Around 9:15 pm Thursday, police were dispatched to the 2800 block of W. Ann on a report of a male with a gun. When an officer arrived, he saw three males standing near the intersection of W. Ann Street and S. Manual Ave. That is when an individual from the group, later identified as the defendant, shot at the officer. All three then fled and were detained after a brief chase. A handgun with a laser was also recovered. Police released the other two individuals.

Our office has filed a Petition to Transfer the case to adult court. The defendant will remain in custody at the Peoria County Juvenile Detention Center.
